Custom Squarespace Web Design or Site Edits
What if a professional website didn’t have to be boring??
I love building personality-packed, custom Squarespace web design to showcase the real YOU, help your visitors &/or clients get to know you, and ensure they’re more excited to reach out & work with you when they’re ready!
AS SEEN IN

You’ve spent countless hours on a DIY website you’re not happy with.
If that’s you, whether you’ve tried your hand at DIY or hired a designer that wasn’t the right fit, you’ve spent hard-earned money on something you can’t use and you don’t know how to fix.

If you’re struggling, overanalyzing everything, feel overwhelmed, get tangled up in web lingo like SEO, CSS or HTML, sitemaps, headers vs headings, etc and feel paralyzed –I get you! I was there once too, before my transition from print design to website design & I remember what that felt like!
It’s taken me years to learn enough to become as quick & confident as I am now.

You’re probably thinkin’,
Even with a background in print design (started in 2006), when I first realized my freelance design work needed a website, I didn’t have access to Dreamweaver (what my intro college class used) so, in 2015, I literally took classes to learn how to code one from scratch. 😳
Months later, I could create a very basic 1 page website with minimal styling but it took ages to code it from scratch.
I knew there had to be a better way! Soon after that, in 2016, I found Squarespace and built my first website with a drag-and-drop builder.

Are you asking the right questions?
Yes, you can DIY your website on Squarespace.
It is a DIY-focused platform, after all.
But the big questions are:
Will the end result be worthy of your brand?
How long will it take you to get it done?
Will it actually work for your business?
Will you be embarrassed or proud of it when you’re done?
I’ve been building personality-packed custom Squarespace web designs for years and I’ve bought A LOT of education to teach me best practices, sales strategies, copywriting & more.
Before that, I also majored in graphic design at college & had an in-house design job for a printing company for almost 9 years, so I’ve had a lot of practice!

Is the math, math-ing?
Think a custom web design is an expensive investment? You’re not wrong, but comparatively, it can actually be much cheaper than going the DIY-route. Find out how much a DIY website really costs:
WEB DESIGN
THE STATS
that MATTER:
-
42% of people leave a website because things don’t work*
23% of small retail businesses don’t even have a website*
24% of small retail businesses without a website say they don’t have one because they don’t know how to create/run one*
Fix those things & you could unseat your competition!

-
In about HALF a second, users form an opinion about your website that determines whether they’ll stay or leave.*
88% of online consumers are less likely to return to a site after a bad experience*
75% of consumers admit to making judgments on a company’s credibility based on the company’s website design*
Bad website design could be costing you customers & sales.

Your website can be your virtual assistant:
taking inquiries
selling products
building your marketing email list
schedule your appointments
provide current pricing information
provide product/service information
answer popular questions
learn more about you/r business
We can make it look good AND be your favorite employee.
-
When you DIY anything, you’re costing yourself time, focus & attention in other areas of your business that bring in money, especially if you don’t have anyone else to delegate to.
you can easily spend days, weeks, or months trying to DIY
Would you have to put off paying clients in order to block out enough time to get this done?
How many clients/sales could you lose because you forgot to market to your audience?
How would it affect your personal life? Would you have time to eat? Sleep? Be with your friends/family? Or would you be locked in your office for 18 hours a day until it was done?
We don’t know, what we don’t know, ––and you could waste a lot of time & effort doing it yourself to save a buck, and you may still need to hire some help to get the look or functionality that you want!

Half day: 4 – 5 hours
(alternative option)
1:1 Sessions: up to 75min total, live Zoom call + replay
-
Homework is usually assigned within 1-2 business days of officially booking the project, so ideally you have at least 2 weeks to complete this guided to-do list before the project starts. Must be complete prior to project’s start, so I have content (rough copy, images, videos, graphics, etc) to design the website with.
WEEK 1
Monday = project starts, we have a kickoff call to go over the submitted content and ask each other any questions
Wednesday = home page draft presentation
Friday = website presentation call
WEEK 2
Monday - Wednesday = feedback & refinement period
Thursday = launch prep
Friday = launch day! We meet to launch the site and I also teach you how to make your own edits.
Support: 4 weeks of email support starts the Monday after project ends.
BRANDING ADD-ON:
For projects with branding as well as the website, the timeline is very similar, just stretched over 3 weeks with brand draft, presentation & revisions happening the first week, and weeks 2-3 remaining mostly the same as above.*All timelines are based in the Eastern Time zone.
-
Website packages are typically split into 3 payments:
33% at booking to hold the spot in my calendar
33% due at/by the start of the project (always on a Monday), and
34% on/by the last day of the project (the Friday of the 2nd/3rd week)
Specific due dates are flexible as long as each invoice is paid in full by those milestones.
-
TIMELINE:
Typically just one 8-hour day or two 4-hour days, during which you will need to be readily available in case I need to pause work to get your feedback before continuing.
We’ll discuss a ‘punch list’ of to-dos, then we use that to set a Scope of Work and book your project day based on that list. Anything I need in order to complete the work is due prior to the start of our project day.
Any files or assets (graphics, edited photos, etc) created for your project day will be exported into formats or templates you can use & sent to you during your support week following your booked day(s).
Email support is included for 1 week after our project date.
PAYMENT:
Due to the fast-paced nature of how these intensive days work, payment is due in full at booking.
-
These sessions are one-on-one deep dives (up to 75 minutes) via live Zoom calls.
The calls are recorded so you don’t have to take notes, because you’ll get a chance to download the replay afterward.
On the call, you can share your screen & I’ll help you troubleshoot basic issues or edits, or you can send me an Admin permissions invite and I can make the edits for you while sharing my screen so you can follow along. After the call is over you may remove my permissions at any time, or I’ll remove myself.
Typically, I’ll send one follow-up email after the call with links to any resources mentioned during our session (blog posts, tutorials, tools, etc).
-
These are pages that most websites need, but aren’t in the main navigation, and typically include:
“link in bio” page – a mobile-friendly page with multiple links for Instagram/social media bios
Legal terms structure & layout – Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policy, etc (language is NOT included)
“Error 404” – a custom redirect page for broken links that inevitably happen over time
Simple “Thank you” page – submission confirmation page for forms to redirect once submitted
“Media Kit” page – a secret collection of your most important info, great to share for speaking or guest opportunities
⚠️ These do not include legal terms, just the design layout & structure to house them. You must supply your own legal policy content; if you don’t have anything, I may share a resource with you to get a discount & become legally compliant, but they are always a separate purchase. You must do your own due diligence.

Frequently Asked Q’s
-
Yay!! I’m so happy you’re excited ––and thrilled you’re here!! 🙌🏻😃
What to expect:
Depending on the time of year, I’m usually booked out 2+ months in advance for custom websites & other 1:1 services. Also, because my business is now split between 1:1 services and education (1:many), I also take on fewer projects throughout the year, so my availability is truly limited & not everyone on the waitlist can be guaranteed a spot.
If you have joined the waitlist (by filling out the form):
I’ll follow up with you when my availability opens back up again, so please just bear with me & sit tight for now. Thank you!
If you have not joined the waitlist, you can do that here if you’re okay to wait.
-
Once started, website design, redesign or migration projects take just 2 full weeks, depending on the scope. If branding is added, it can take 3 weeks total.
-
When you’ve officially booked into my schedule, within the week you book I’ll invite you to our collaborative portal where we’ll manage the project together.
There you’ll have access to guided materials that will help you establish your style preferences & communicate those with me, submit your copy (text/info) and content (images, logos, etc).
I want you to have at least 2 full weeks available prior to your project’s start date to complete the pre-project homework so you can work it into your day-to-day life without stress and have plenty of time to ask me questions as you work through it. The more thought you put into that material, the better job I can do for you!

➜ For Brand + Website packages: Week 1 is focused on the brand design, Week 2 & 3 are focused on the website design & launch + 30 days of email support after the project is over.
➜ For Website-only packages: Week 1 is focused on the initial design phase, Week 2 is focused on revisions & feedback, then we launch! + 30 days of email support after the project is over.
➜ Design Day packages are typically booked for just one workday, or half of a work day, and include a week of email support.
Custom Website basic process:
Guided content gathering & creation happens inside our collaborative portal, and includes a series of guided prompts, a questionnaire/workbook, and a Pinterest board for collecting initial visual inspiration & helping me figure out your style. We only have between 3 and 4 meetings throughout the whole project, only 2 of which are mandatory/required. Otherwise, all communication happens inside the portal, switching back to email during the Support period & anything after that. This keeps everything related to the project transparent, organized, and in one single place for the best experience possible.
After the Design Day or Custom Website:
After the website has launched or the Design Day is over you’ll get a digital folder full of all things related to your project, that might include things like graphics, edited images, or new logos + a simple brand guide where applicable, etc. I give you EVERYthing I can possibly think of to make sure you have the best experience and a successful/easy transition to self-reliance after our project is done! -
❶ A personality-packed Squarespace website that’s strategically planned to grow with you as your business scales.
❷ An online home you’re PROUD of and can maintain yourself with confidence.
❸ Tons of additional education throughout the process and a 1:1 training session to teach you how to use & maintain your website after it launches. I don’t just ask for your content, I also teach you why I’m asking & what that content will do for your website so nothing feels arbitrary & everything has a purpose.
❹ You also get all the final files created for your designs, in formats you can open without needing industry-standard designer software.
-
Yes. For website packages, a non-refundable initial payment of 25% - 33% gets you locked into my schedule & goes toward your overall investment. The remaining balance is split into payments with the last payment due right before the website launches.
For Design Days, you can pay in full when you book the day with me.
Why do I require an initial payment? I only work on 1 large project at a time, so when you book a website package, I block off our project date(s) on my calendar just for you and plan to focus on your project during that time. The initial payment shows you’re all-in and allows me to give that spot to just you, keeping me from juggling multiple projects at once & spreading myself too thin.
-
If during the call you indicated that you’d like to move forward, then I’d send the Proposal, Design Agreement, and Invoice within about 1 business day, usually.
After you have a chance to see the paperwork, you get to decide what to do next!
If you want to book a design spot with me, you’ll fill out & submit the Proposal (short form), read & sign the Design Agreement, then make the Initial Payment (25%-33% for website packages, 50-100% for Design Days) on the invoice to secure the spot which holds your spot in my calendar.
Within the week, I’ll send an early invite to our collaborative Portal area, so you can start on the ‘homework’ (content submissions) which guides you through submitting everything I need to build and design your website for you so we’ll be ready to rock & roll on your project’s start date!
-
If during the call you indicated that you’re not ready to work with me for whatever reason, then that’s a perfectly valid decision and there’s nothing further to do, because at this point there’s no commitment or agreement.
If you seemed undecided, I may follow up once or twice to check in & see how you’re feeling or answer any lingering questions, but I won’t be pressuring you to make a decision, I promise!
This has to be “the right fit” for both parties & if it’s not, I will 100% respect that. 😊
-
Nope! That’s not really a guarantee though, from anyone that doesn’t specialize in this exact thing.
This is 1,000% a long-game strategy. Despite what you may have heard, ranking on Google searches requires strategic & consistent effort over time or buying strategic regular ads (not recommended for newer businesses, otherwise you could always be paying for your traffic).
I'm not an SEO (Search Engine Optimization) expert, but I have achieved page 1 rankings for specific keywords I chose to associate with my business & website, which means I know the basics and will implement that for you as I build your website, which is just best practice.
If your goal is to be high-ranking on Google searches, I'd plan to hire an SEO expert or plan to use a reputable SEO tool in an ongoing capacity as these things do take time to see results.
Some reputable SEO options I feel comfortable recommending are:
❶ SEO Space* - In 2023 a “Yoast” style Chrome extension launched designed specifically for Squarespace websites! It now includes site-wide audits, and a 20+ point checklist & interactive scan of any page to help you with DIY SEO implementation, for a very affordable monthly rate. Designed by Henry Purchase, expert & owner of Rough Water Media, an SEO agency.

All of that can be done through Squarespace (recommended)! But if you already have a domain elsewhere, don't fret. I can transfer it to Squarespace for you, so that you're billed from the same company each year for your renewal & can manage it all in 1 place.
OR, I can just “point it” (connect it) to your new Squarespace website, if you'd like to keep the domain wherever you purchased it.
Does any of that sound murky and confusing to you? Then don't sweat it; I'll do everything I can FOR you to keep this as simple as possible.
-
Yes. Squarespace charges a fee for their hosting plan & domain. That fee is not covered in my design package & you will be responsible for maintaining it in order to keep your website live. To see what Squarespace currently charges, you can take a look here.
I don’t charge any ongoing fees once your agreed-upon design package is paid in full.
The only circumstance where there may be additional charges would be if you specifically want me to help you with your website on an ongoing basis and that would require a separate agreement; those details would be worked out with you per situation and my availability.
-
There aren’t any additional costs, unless:
✔ you DON’T already have your website’s legal policies ready to go, in which case, legally you are required to have a Privacy Policy, and it’s recommended to also have Terms & Conditions and client agreements for each aspect of your business. Learn more about that here in #3 of that list.
✔ you change Squarespace plans (upgrade) or add features to it, such as Member Areas, Squarespace Email Campaigns, Video hosting, etc.
Or if you add other services outside of Squarespace to connect to your site, like:
✔ an email marketing service, such as Kit/ConvertKit, FloDesk or MailerLite
✔ paying for an SEO expert/tool to optimize or maintain your site for a higher Google ranking
✔ buying a branded email address through Google Workspace
✔ paying for an online scheduler like Acuity or Calendly
✔ using a CRM (like Dubsado) to manage clients in service-based businesses
✔ using a Project Management tool to manage projects or production processes, though many of these have good free plans.
✔ want to set up a membership outside of free services like Facebook, & choose a paid service like Circle.so or Mighty Networks
You can learn more about many of these extra tools/software and read my reviews.

I only work on 1 large project at a time, so when you book a project with me you know you have my full & undivided attention.
The financial investment is big for several reasons, but mainly because:
✔️ you’re investing in my specialized skill set, which has been honed for over well over a decade (since 2006)
✔️ it’s a very time-intensive project, requiring a full 80+/- hours of actual design work with more time included for your post-project support, and even more pre-project time spent reviewing your content submissions to make sure I’m able to ‘step into your shoes’ and design as if I’m you (but with my skill set). There are 1,000 things to get done in a short time frame & 1,001 to teach you so you feel empowered when you disembark on your own voyage after the site launches! 😉
✔️ I also need YOUR mental & emotional investment in order for me to do the best job possible for you, so essentially you’re putting your money where your mouth is!
✔️ I focus on your EXPERIENCE just as much as the design itself, –soooo this ain’t Fiver or Upwork.
✔️ um…not to sound cocky, but I’m also f*ckin’ awesome. So if you love me and my style then working with me is the only way you can get that. #oneofakind 😉
-
After your final payment, I will upload them into a folder online and send you the link so you can download them from wherever you are.
If you also want a hard copy, that's available too, upon request, but there will be a shipping fee to send it to you.
-
I work best with female entrepreneurs who are a little unorthodox, have a bit of extra ⏯ flair, (sense of humor), who run personal brand businesses, and are at least a little tech-savvy (i.e. you have a smartphone/laptop/desktop you use frequently for everyday tasks & have an email account you check often).
I know that’s oddly specific, so if you’re not sure that’s you and you’re dying to work with me, book that Discovery Call when I send the link, so we can get a chance to chat & see if we’re a good fit to work together. 😁
-
If you got this far, I’m guessing you’re not itching to DIY anymore, –but yes, you totally could!
What I often see though, is that people who do DIY their sites still aren’t happy with the outcome MONTHS into their DIY-design, and they just want to hand it off to someone else to finally get it done because they’re still tweaking to no avail. So it just depends on what your goals are, what your vision is & whether you think you can achieve that yourself.
But I know that’s not the answer you were hoping for. 😂 If you need more insight, make sure you read this post, When to DIY, buy a template, or hire a designer.
-
Write it down to ask during your free consult call, or ask me your question here! There’s no such thing as a dumb question ‘round here. 😉
Who’s behind the screen?
My name’s Katelyn & it’s nice to meet ya!
I’m a laid back, laugh-happy, sarcasm-using, coffee-drinking, pet-loving, bibliophile and custom Squarespace web designer and educator. I’ve been designing since I found Publisher on my Dad’s computer as a kid in the 90’s, so you’re in great hands.
(Promise, I’ve updated my software since then! 😉)

★★★★★
Where do I start? I have been updating & designing my website by myself since the dawn of time. While I had a logo, there was no brand. Consistent fonts, colors, etc. HAAAA!
I am so thankful I found Launch the Damn Thing®! Not only do I have a KILLA brand, fonts, & colors - THAT WEBSITE IS EVERYTHING!
If you were to ask me if it was worth the financial investment, I would say that I can not put a price tag on the final product. You went above and beyond! The additional factors you’ve added SURPASSED my expectations!
Being a boudoir photographer, I do my best to showcase all bodies. I want everyone to be represented. Thanks to Katelyn, my brand + website are ME ––my business is FINALLY represented. 😭
